What is a good free web hosting site, other than freewebs or geocities?

has completely shut down. it won%26#039;t show my pictures anymore!


So, since this isn%26#039;t the first time freewebs failed, does anyone know any others that i can switch to? I want something easy to use since I don%26#039;t know html, but I don%26#039;t want something that won%26#039;t let me do what I want. I only want a simple background, and lots of space to put pictures on.

Reply:If you have a DSL or cable HSI connection you can host your own web site* with NO-IP** no charge. This will give you a secondary domain name (Example: www.myname.noip.com). Use IIs in XP Pro or Windows 2000 Pro. This will only limit you to the upload bandwidth and space on your hard drive. It will also give to unlimited access to yourself from the internet from a remote computer, if you need such access.


I have 6Mbps\768Kbps cable so I do not have much problems with uploads. Consider your download from say Download.com are around 250kbs to 350kbs, at least for me. You should be able to support several hit on your site at the same time.


If you want to serve it seperate from your computer, the resources required to run a site are minimual. I use a P-II 400mhz, 256mb of RAM, with Windows 2000 Pro and IIs 4.0.

Reply:Like someone said before me, try make your own server, its not that hard as it seems, i have my own server too (web server, email server...) on a free sumdomain, i recomand to get a free subdomain from www.dyndns.org, its working fine, i dunno if noip gives wildcard, but dyndns does, you can have static or dinamic ip address.
